❄️ Jr-Sr High School News ❄️

Happy New Year!

We are excited to start 2026 with our students and teachers using all of the new spaces from the capital improvement project. This project was voted on by the public in February 2023 and we are excited for the students to be in the finished spaces. Most recently we opened the junior high wing. Our 7th & 8th graders have four new classrooms on the first floor, a new counseling suite and new bathrooms.

Our music department is enjoying a brand new state-of-the-art music suite with a new chorus room, two vocal practice rooms, and new music classroom for general music classes. Rehearsals for the spring musical "High School Musical" are already underway in these spaces.

We are thankful to the Board of Education, Dr. Kruzynski, Campus Construction and the Medina community for their vision, planning and investment in our student's bright future.

Student of the Month ⭐

Congratulations to December Student of the Month winner, Asia-Lynn Neuhaus. Asia is an eighth grader who was nominated by Kayla Rosenbeck, Joe Byrne, and Jessica Catalano-McCloskey.

Asia-Lynn's teachers report that she consistently demonstrates a level of responsibility and maturity well beyond what we typically see with eighth graders. Whether in the classroom, during group work, or on independent assignments, she approaches every task with care, diligence, and a genuine desire to do her best. She asks questions and advocates for herself when she doesn't understand something. Asia-Lynn's work ethic is exceptional—she stays organized, meets deadlines without reminders, and takes initiative when she sees something that needs to be done. Beyond academics, she brings kindness into every interaction that she has, including ones with her teachers. She treats her peers with respect, supports classmates who may be struggling, and contributes to a positive classroom environment simply by being thoughtful and dependable. Her leadership, character, and consistent effort make her truly deserving of this recognition.

If you see Asia-Lynn, be sure to congratulate her.

Mustang Athletics 🏀

The winter sports season is underway. Winter schedules may change due to weather. Up-to-date sports schedules can be found here.

Congratulations to Jerrell Nealy, who hit his 1,000 career point this season. He is one of 9 Medina players in the history of the program to reach this milestone.

Mustang Sports Boosters are looking for concession volunteers for home basketball games. Sign up here.

The boosters are now offering healthy concessions for athletes on select dates from 3:00-3:30PM in the lobby. Follow them on Facebook for dates.

A reminder that all PK-8 students must be accompanied by an adult to athletic events and remain supervised by them for the event for safety reasons.

The Blizzard of Kindness continues!

All January, teachers can nominate individual students or their entire class for showing kindness. Nominees will have their name added to a snowflake in our lobby display and will be entered for a chance to win a special treat!

Second Semester Update: As we wrap up the first semester and prepare for the start of the second semester, there will be a two-week add/drop period from January 26 through February 6. Students considering a schedule change should carefully review the information in HERE for important details and requirements.

Annual reviews and course selection are underway! Please be on the lookout for a pass from either Mrs. Krawiec or Mrs. McGrath (covering for Mrs. Doll). Prior to meeting, encourage students to begin thinking about which electives they may want to take next year. As a reminder, course selections should align with and support a student's career goals. All course descriptions can be found in the course catalog for reference. We look forward to meeting with you all!

Next year's course catalog can be found here.

MHS scholarship applications are due on January 28th at 3 PM. All information is on the senior class Google classroom.
NO LATE APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED!

Goal Setting 🎯

Every Tuesday during homeroom, our students take time to plan and review their goals for the marking period. We ask the students to focus on three areas or ABC:
A=Attendance Goal
B=Behavior or Personal Goal
C=Course Goal

Students track their goals in the DESSA app on their Chromebook.

The new semester begins Monday, January 26, 2026. Please take a few minutes to check in with your child on their goals and discuss areas to focus on. Setting and achieving realistic goals can help your child stay motivated and develop a strong work ethic that is needed throughout their adult life.
